Here are 5 reasons why you should attend the fashion event of the fall.
“Slow fashion” is a response to the popular “fast fashion” phenomenon: trendy clothing made inexpensively, often at the cost of people or the environment. The “slow fashion” movement seeks to emphasize responsible production and consumerism as well as clothing recycling programs. This results in clothing made with higher quality materials, with designs that will withstand ever-changing trends!
The “slow fashion” movement focuses on creating a sustainable style for consumers (that’s you!). To the designers, this means having responsible production practices, as well as creating timeless designs from organic & locally sourced materials. At the lecture, you will learn about how to incorporate sustainable style into your wardrobe by following practices such as purchasing items of quality rather than quantity and being an informed consumer.
Designers Brittney Ciardi and Wendy Ostrweil will be at the lecture explaining why they (and we) love the “slow fashion” movement.
Why is this movement important? Brittney Ciardi explains, “I am a New York based eco-friendly fashion designer with a passion for textile development and exploring eco dyeing. My Mission going forward is to create clothing that makes people feel beautiful while keeping our planet beautiful. My Spring/Summer 2018 collection is all naturally dyed and created with natural fibers. This way you can do good while feeling good.”
Who doesn’t love shopping? I know we do! Discover products from demonstrators and organizations committed to organic, sustainable, or green practices ranging from food and beverage, to art and beauty products, to home decor.
When was the last time you visited the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts? Take advantage of the evening by being the first to see our newest exhibition, Sketched Out. Featuring rarely exhibited drafts and sketches, Sketched Out gives you an inside look at the planning process of historic and contemporary artists around the Lehigh Valley.
Admission for the fashion show is $25 for Students with valid student ID, $45 for HBMS Members, and $55 for Non-Members. Don’t miss this amazing evening that is sure to be the highlight of the fall!
