BLUEBERRIES – And So Much More!

By Morgan Harris, Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites Marketing Coordinator

  1. Food…Yum

Have you ever had blueberry ice cream? Enough said. You will be able to smell the blueberries cooking from miles away. Let the sweet aromas of blueberry pie, blueberry cookies, blueberry summer soup and more satisfy your blueberry desires all at once. If you think you’ve got the best blueberry recipe around, then prove it! This year you can enter the first ever Blueberry Cooking Contest. (email mmulder@historicbethlehem.org for details)

  1. Shop…shop…shop some more!

Check out the finest regional crafters in the area and support local businesses. BUT WAIT…there’s more! Not only will awesome wood carvers, yarn dyers, and hammock-making crafters be attending but they will also put on personal demonstrations. That’s right…who doesn’t want to learn how to make their own hammock? Nobody! Do you or someone you know do some interesting crafting? Apply to be a blueberry festival crafter on our website! The more, the merrier.

  1. Beer

Chris Bowen (yes, our amazing brewer for the awesome Bethlehem Brewed & Distilled exhibit) makes a mean blueberry beer! (or so I’ve heard). And let’s face it, is there any type of beer more refreshing than one inspired by fresh blueberries? I think not. Hey, maybe our Blueberry Beer is fewer calories since it’s made with fresh fruit? Let’s just go with that! Visit Chris at the expanded tasting tent, Blueberry Brewery. Tickets are still available!

  1. Wine & Mead

Okay, so maybe blueberry beer isn’t your thing…don’t worry we have wine and mead tastings too! Whether you don’t enjoy the taste of beer or you’re afraid of the calories, (if you’re going to have a beer, it may as well have a super food ingredient,) we will have full size drinks available for purchase by Colony Meadery and Pinnacle Winery. Visit HistoricBethlehem.org for more information.

  1. Being Outside is Fun

You can learn the history of colonial farming, watch colonial cooking demonstrations in the Summer Kitchen and experience the highhorse power wheel in the barn during guided tours of the grounds. Kids can ride ponies, make bluebird birdhouses and dress up in colonial costume. Jam out to notable bands; This Way to the Egress, She Said Sunday, and Craig Thatcher & Nike Van Wyk. Don’t worry I won’t judge you for dancing like a fool (but I can’t say others won’t.) Enjoy time with your family at this kid friendly festival. Never mind the cliché, there really is something for everyone!

  1. *BONUS Reason to come to the Blueberry Festival!

There’s a blueberry pie eating contest! As if you needed one…

See you there! (I’ll be the one with the camera)
