The 1752 Apothecary Tour

February 1st, 2023 |

What did early Moravian settlers do when they were sick and ailing? What types of medical, wellness, and recovery methods were used in early Bethlehem? Find the answers to these questions and more on our historic Moravian Apothecary guided tour.

Our docent will lead you through Bethlehem’s scenic Main Street — from our Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe (505 Main Street) — to the 1752 Apothecary (just behind the Moravian Book Shop off Main Street). The tour ends at the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem. From site to site, you’ll experience and explore more than two centuries of medical progress in Bethlehem.

SITES ON THE TOUR INCLUDE

  • 1752 Apothecary – Featuring collections original to the site and medicinal garden
  • Moravian Museum of Bethlehem, Gemeinhaus – The oldest standing building in Bethlehem and one of two National Historic Landmarks in the National Historic Landmark District of Historic Moravian Bethlehem

Tickets are available in person at the Historic Bethlehem Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe & Museum Store or over the phone by calling 1-800-360-TOUR. The tour leaves promptly at 1 p.m. from the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem, located at 66 West Church Street.

Very Interesting Museum with Informative Tour

“We visited the Moravian Museum on 1/30/16 as part of a walking tour from the Visitors Center, down Main St. to the Apothecary and then to the Museum. The museum and particularly our Tour Guide provided an understanding of the history of the Moravian Church and the way the members in Bethlehem lived. Displays and artifacts in the museum are quite interesting, including the hand made cloth dolls, The Christmas Putz, and the mannequins in period dress.”
