Twirling & Triturating

April 7th, 2011 |

Creating and mounting exhibits takes a significant amount of energy and time.  It starts with a tiny concept conceived months ago, and slowly builds until it becomes a reality.  Research is evaluated, text written, designs created…and off to the printer it goes.  Then comes the mounting phase;  objects are brought out and signs and labels are put up.

In the end, we curators stand back and look at the final creation.  The result is an extraordinary example of collaborative effort between volunteers, curators, educators, facilities management and marketing and programming in the organization.  Even though the completed project is the culmination of the work, exhibits never feel quite finished until visitors experience them.

These young visitors made our Design in Divided America exhibit at Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts feel complete when they spent some time dressing up and twirling in our 1860s dress-up clothes.

And this young man played the roll of a pharmacist by triturating a compound in the Kill or Cure exhibit.  Their enjoyment along with all of the other visitors who came out for our annual Community Day made all the hard work worth it.
