This holiday season, plan for an unforgettable experience on the bucolic streets of Historic Moravian Bethlehem, a National Historic Landmark District. Celebrating over 80 years of Christmas City, USA and 275+ years of holiday traditions, bring family and friends to explore a range of seasonal tours, exhibitions, shopping and more with Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites.
Join them Saturday, Nov. 24 for their 16th annual Turkey Trot 5K Run, Competitive Walk & Fun Walk, presented by Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s. Run, walk or stroll off those Thanksgiving Day calories through America’s first industrial park: the Colonial Industrial Quarter. Don’t forget fido – register your pup to strut their stuff in the Best Pet Costume Contest then show off their outfit with downtown Bethlehem in the new 1.7 mile Fun Walk course. Registered participants get a Turkey Trot t-shirt, refreshments, race photo and free admission to Trees of Historic Bethlehem (with race t-shirt or bib) as well as a 10 percent discount at all museum gift shops for hassle-free Christmas shopping all weekend long.
Stop by their Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe & Museum Gift Shop at 505 Main Street for unique traditional Moravian presents like the iconic Bethlehem Star or beeswax candles. Shop handmade items crafted by local artisans including pottery, artwork, accessories, jewelry, ornaments, tasty treats and much more.
From Nov. 23 to Dec. 31, discover the beauty of Bethlehem on a cozy horse-drawn carriage ride. On the Christmas City Stroll Walking Tour, learn the amazing stories of Bethlehem’s heritage, view the exquisite Victorian and colonial architecture of the historic district, hear the tale of a candle in every window, and visit two National Historic Landmarks: the 1741 Gemeinhaus and the 1762 Waterworks. Deemed the best way to see Bethlehem, take a journey back through time on the Bethlehem By Night Bus Tour. Hear from Docents in period dress about the early holiday traditions of the Moravians and historic highlights of north and south Bethlehem, and visit the iconic Star on South Mountain.
Don’t miss the nation’s only Live Advent Calendar from Dec. 1 to the 23 at 5:30 p.m. in front of the 1810 Goundie House on Main Street. Each night, a visitor will be chosen to knock on the door of the Goundie House and a special guest from a local business or organization will appear to distribute treats to the crowd.
