August is here, and with it comes back-to-school season.
To mark the end of a summer reading series and the beginning of the upcoming school year, six area nonprofits have partnered for a back-to-school-giveaway later this month.
The Aug. 16 event will take place at the National Museum of Industrial History, 602 E. Second St., from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It’s hosted by the museum, the Bethlehem Area Public Library, Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites, ArtsQuest, PBS39 and Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley.
Each organization will give out freebies and both PBS39 and Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley will give away books. ArtsQuest teaching artist Melissa Perhamus will be hosting a hands-on-activity and arts demonstration for kids, and PBS39’s mascot, Telebear, will be in attendance.
The event caps off a collaborative summer reading program in which kids visited each nonprofit to hear children’s stories. The Aug. 16 event will also incorporate a storytelling component.
“This celebration of literature and art is the perfect way for kids to dive back into the school year,” said Kara Cenni, president and CEO of the industrial history museum, in a Tuesday news release. “It’s a free, fun event and the participation of so many fantastic Bethlehem non-profits ensures it will be a great day for the whole family.”
