LV Live: No Quarters Needed: May Brings A Pop-Up Retro Arcade to Bethlehem

May 9th, 2019 |

Written by Sara K. Satullo

Take a nostalgia-filled dive into your childhood every Friday night in May when a retro arcade sets up shop at the Kemerer Museum in Bethlehem.

Leave your quarters at home — the games are on freeplay — and face off with a friend at Ms. Pac Man, Mortal Kombat II or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Or test out the old-school Nintendos and see if you really are as good at Duck Hunt as you remember. There will be prizes for high scorers.

When your thumbs hurt, take a break at the childhood snack bar and chow down on some cosmic brownies and Gushers or sample a drink from a rotating selection of local libations. Organizers advise you get there early because it gets packed.

It’s definitely not your typical night at the museum — 427 New St. in Bethlehem — from 5:30 to 8 p.m. May 3, 10, 24, and 31, when the retro arcade takes over the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts.

The arcade nights are part of Historic Bethlehem Museum and Sites’ Design After Dark programming, which includes trivia nights, beer gardens, documentary film showings and retro games. Events are being hosted at several historic sites.

Admission: $10 for HBMS members, includes two drinks; $15 for non-members, includes two drinks and $5 for non-member designated drivers.

The arcade and console games are being provided by COIN Retro Arcade + bar Bethlehem, which is working to set up a location in South Bethlehem, and Lick Arcade.

This week’s game list: Ms. Pac Man; Gauntlet; Mortal Kombat II; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Fight Fight; Centipede; Popeye; Neo Geo; Crazy Taxi and Fish Tales Pinball.
