One of Bethlehem’s oldest buildings — one still very much in use — is Central Moravian Church’s Old Chapel at Heckewelder Place in The Christmas City’s downtown historic district.
The place of worship, like most of the stone buildings around it, was constructed in 1751 by the early Moravian settlers and remains structurally the same today.
The 18th-century building is the featured scene of Bethlehem’s 2019 holiday greeting card titled “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night), illustrated by Allentown artist and painter Ann Elizabeth Schlegel.
Greeting card packs are on sale now (with or without a holiday message) for $10 and $20 at Bethlehem’s Visitor’s Center at 505 Main St., Kemerer Museum at 427 N New St. and Moravian Museum at 66 W Church St.
The original winter scene painting sold for $7,200 at the Historic Bethlehem’s Holiday Dinner & Auction last weekend, and features The Old Chapel, the 1746 Bell House and the 1741 Gemein Haus. This is the 27th year that the holiday dinner painting has been featured on the city’s greeting card.
All proceeds of the 2019 Christmas card sales go to Historic Bethlehem.
