Heads up Lehigh Valley bakers: It’s time to bust out those blueberry dessert recipes.
The 31st annual Blueberry Festival, which is July 21 and 22 at Bethlehem’s Burnside Plantation, is looking for adult and child bakers to compete in its annual culinary contest.
Here’s how it works:
How will the desserts be judged? Flavor (30 points); texture (25 points); outside characteristics including overall appeal and uniform shape (15 points); originality, or creative use of ingredients and recipe (15 points); and process or ease/difficulty of the recipe (15 points).
How do you enter? Submit your recipe with your entry online or download the entry and mail it in and include all ingredients, quantities and preparation instructions. Include name, phone number, address and email on the back of the first page. Refrigeration is not available at the Blueberry Festival, so if your dish needs to be chilled before judging, you must pack it in a cooler.
How about children? Kid bakers 15 and under can compete in the children’s category.
What’s the deadline? 3 p.m. July 13.
How do I register? Online, https://bit.ly/2tKOFtm. Download and mail: https://bit.ly/2Kq0PSW and https://bit.ly/2KBklI5 to: Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites, 74 W. Broad St., Suite 260, Bethlehem PA 18108.
When is the contest? Noon, July 21 for the adult category and noon July 22 for the children’s category.
The contest is free to enter but does not include admission to the festival. Festival admission is $5 for kids, $10 for adults, and $10 add-on for four Blueberry Brewery tastings. Online specials include: Family four-pack: $25 for 2 adults and 2 kids, Adult value combo: $20 for 1 adult and six Blueberry Brewery tastings.
