Step back in time and celebrate some important anniversaries in Bethlehem.
Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites will mark the 275th anniversary of the 1741 Gemeinhaus and the City of Bethlehem with a Community Celebration 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Events at the 1741 Gemeinhaus include family-friendly activities such as learn to make a paper Moravian star, dip and dress a beeswax candle, dress up with costumed guides and snap a photo at a cutout photo station. Enjoy live music, tour the original worship spaces of Bethlehem and see the oldest fire engines in the area.
Stop at the Single Sisters House and see the first stage of a permanent exhibition featuring noteworthy women who lived in the house during key moments in history. Also at Single Sisters House is a pop-up exhibition and sale of works by 20 artists who work in such traditional Bethlehem trades as red ware pottery, jewelry, wood turning, soap making and wheat weaving.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem will host the annual Jeanette Barres Zug Lecture in the 1741 Gemeinhaus. Tim Noble of Noble Preservation Services will talk about how the 1741 Gemeinhaus was constructed.
A donation of $10 per family for the celebration is requested to support the 275th Anniversary Community Heritage Campaign. Admission is $10 for the Sunday Lecture.
