The Morning Call: Two downtown Bethlehem events: Fine Art & Craft Show and Community Heritage Day

Heritage Day activities in the Colonial Industrial Quarter 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday will reveal Bethlehem’s creative roots.

Learn what it was like to be a blacksmith at the 1750 Smithy. Professional blacksmiths will demonstrate how Moravians forged hooks, hinges and door handles. On the Smithy green, make decorations created with holes punched in tin that you can take home.

Explore techniques of weaving, dyeing, leatherwork, and find out what it takes to work clay into usable pottery by making a pinch pot at the 1869 Luckenbach Mill. Check out the “Time Capsule Bethlehem: Our City Then & Now” photo exhibit on display on the second floor of the mill.

Take a tour of the 1762 Waterworks, a National Historic Landmark and the first pumped municipal water system in America, as part of the Colonial Industrial Quarter Walking Tour at 1 p.m.

Near the Waterworks, Historic Bethlehem Foodways Group will teach colonial recipes and illustrate open-hearth cooking methods.

Light refreshments and gifts will be sold at the 1764 Springhouse.
