December 18th, 2024

Mark Demko Brings Two Decades of Marketing & Communications Experience to Growing Nonprofit

Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites is pleased to announce that Mark Demko has joined the organization as its new Development & Communications Coordinator. A lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley, Demko brings more than two decades of experience in nonprofit communications, community relations, marketing and development to the nonprofit that is responsible for caring for 20 historic properties and sites over 20 acres within the Historic Moravian Bethlehem National Historic Landmark District in the city.

“With Moravian Church Settlements—Bethlehem recently inscribed on the World Heritage Sites list, Mark is joining our team at an especially exciting time for Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites,” said HBMS Vice President and Managing Director Lindsey Jancay. “From our Christmas programs to our World Heritage Tours, we are focused on presenting world-class experiences for our visitors. We know Mark’s storytelling expertise and experience with nonprofit communications will help us connect more deeply with the community and our stakeholders while bringing our mission and programs to life in new and meaningful ways.”

In his new role, Demko will coordinate all of HBMS’ marketing and promotional efforts, media relations and communications with the organization’s various stakeholders, including members, donors and community organizations. Among his primary areas of responsibility will be strategic communications and outreach supporting the organization’s programming, annual fund, membership acquisition and retention, and donations and gifts, with a focus on delivering timely communications that align with HBMS’ mission and engage stakeholders through their tone and content.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to bring my years of experience in nonprofit communications to Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites,” Demko said. “This is a dynamic, growing organization that is tasked with preserving and promoting Bethlehem’s rich history, supporting tourism in the city and highlighting the impact the Moravians have had both locally and globally. I’m thrilled to be working with HBMS’ members, donors and volunteers to amplify Bethlehem’s incredible history while fostering stronger relationships with the community and the nonprofit’s many supporters. Everyone has made me feel so welcome since I started, and that’s testament to the incredible culture within the organization.”

A graduate of Moravian College, now Moravian University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism, Demko worked from 1999-2020 at ArtsQuest, the nonprofit that presents Musikfest, Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem and the programs and activities at SteelStacks and the Banana Factory arts & cultural center. As the organization’s Senior Director of Communications, he was responsible for public relations and communications initiatives and strategies, playing a pivotal role in the organization’s growth following the transformation of the old Bethlehem Steel mill into the SteelStacks arts and cultural campus in 2010. Prior to joining Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites, he served as an editor for Outdoor Sportsman Group, owner of the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel, from 2020-2024.

Demko resides in the Lehigh Valley with his wife, Allison, and their daughter, Aine.
