The nonprofit elevates Lindsey Jancay to a new role focused on organizational growth and expanded community outreach.
Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites (HBMS) is pleased to announce that Lindsey Jancay has been promoted to the organization’s vice president and managing director. In this critical leadership role, Jancay will oversee the operations of the 20 historic buildings under HBMS’s care in Bethlehem, including several that are part of Moravian Church Settlements–Bethlehem, the newest World Heritage Site in theUnited States.
“Lindsey’s passion for our mission and dedication to excellence have truly inspired our team,” said LoriAnn Wukitsch, HBMS president and CEO. “Her commitment to telling the stories of the Moravians and the history of Bethlehem is evident through her expertly curated and thoughtfully designed exhibitions, the new community initiatives she has launched and the growth of our programming for students and families.”
In her new position, Jancay will play an expanded role in supporting HBMS’s work in the community and managing the organization’s growth following the inscription of Moravian Church Settlements–Bethlehem on the list of World Heritage Sites. HBMS oversees several properties and sites that are part of the Moravian Church Settlements–Bethlehem site. Among these are the 1741 Gemeinhaus and 1744-1772 Single Sisters House, as well as the 1761 Tannery, 1762 Waterworks and archeological remains of the Butchery, Oil Mill, Dye House & Pottery in the Colonial Industrial Quarter.
Jancay will also continue to connect donors, businesses and individuals to HBMS’s mission while ensuring the accessibility of HBMS’s sites and offerings. In addition, she will help prepare HBMS for continued growth in the coming years by evaluating how to create the space for the organization to welcome more people to the city and engage visitors in the most meaningful way possible.
“Telling the story of Bethlehem’s history and connecting the past in a way that helps us see the future more clearly is paramount to me,” Jancay said. “With Moravian Church Settlements–Bethlehem now inscribed as a World Heritage Site, we have more opportunities than ever to reach new and diverse audiences, introducing them to the amazing cultural treasures here in our community. From developing new history-focused programs for students and families, to welcoming visitors who are passionate about World Heritage tourism, we look forward to sharing our city’s history and heritage with even more people in the coming years.”
Jancay started at HBMS in July 2015 as the curator of collections and exhibitions before being promoted to director of collections and programming. In November 2021, she was elevated to the director of marketing, collections and programming, and then director of collections and engagement in December 2022.
“Lindsey certainly deserves her promotion to Vice President and Managing Director,” said Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites Board of Trustees Chair Joel C. Rosenfeld MD. “She is a hardworking, knowledgeable, forward-thinking, responsible and caring leader who has consistently demonstrated her passion for our organization.”
During her time with HBMS, Jancay has focused on bringing Bethlehem’s history to life through experiential programs and exhibitions. Her leadership at the organization has driven the successful digitization of more than 10,000 archival photographs and the curation of 20-plus exhibitions, showcasing museum holdings, private collections and the work of local artists. In addition, Jancay has spearheaded innovative programming such as Free Sundays at the Museum, Design After Dark and The Single Sisters’ Series. Recent projects in which she has played an integral role include the launch of the Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe, the opening of the Goundie House Welcome Center and the introduction of the HBMS Heritage Concierge Program, expanding public access to and engagement with Bethlehem’s rich history.
Before joining the HBMS team, Jancay led research and exhibition initiatives with the Laslo Matulay Collection at The Gallery at the Allentown JCC and Congregation Keneseth Israel, worked as a special collections assistant at Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection, managing editor for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Journal of Arts Administration and Policy. Jancay has also served as a guest curator at the Center for Visual Research at Cedar Crest College, as well as at the Freedman Gallery at Albright College in Reading.
