Mead Tasting & Demonstration at Burnside

Featuring the Colony Meadery

BETHLEHEM, PA- Enjoy the beautiful fall scenery and changing colors in the colonial garden while tasting traditional meads. Join Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites at Burnside Plantation on Sunday, September 28 and October 18 at 2pm and 3pm for a mead tasting, demonstration and information event featuring the award winning Colony Meadery! Meet the co-founder, Michael Manning, an accomplished home brewer with a best of show award at the 2011 Valhalla mead competition, and learn how different honey makes different tasting mead just like different grapes make different tasting wine. Then, sample four classic examples of semi-sweet traditional mead:

–          Straight, No Chaser: Award winner, made with Orange Blossom honey

–          Queens Gambit: Award winner, made with Wildflower honey from New Jersey

–          Experiment 1: Made with Alfalfa Blossom honey

–          Experiment 2: Made with Blueberry Blossom honey

You can also take a guided tour of the Plantation and learn the history of this colonial farm. In the mid-1980s, a group of preservationists and environmentalists led by Gertie Fox petitioned Lehigh County to purchase the last remaining tract, 6.5 acres, of the original 500 acre Burnside Farm to save as open space and to preserve the heart of an 18th century farm within the city limits of Bethlehem. Burnside Plantation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With our Pass Into History, you can learn the history extensively while admiring the scenic beauty it encompasses.

Before or after the mead tasting, be sure to check out the free Blacksmith Demonstration also happening at Burnside from 11am-4pm. The blacksmith will be sure to ignite your creative side!

Admission for the mead tasting and demonstration is included with a 4-site Pass Into History, or purchase a ticket on-site that day. As these events may fill up fast, call 1-800-360-TOUR to reserve your spot today! ID will be required as this is a 21-and-over event.
