Courier Post: ‘Christmas City’: Even in pandemic, Bethlehem is festive destination for holiday shopping, eating

December 15th, 2020 |

Written by Hira Qureshi for The Courier Post

If you’re a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies, Bethlehem is the town to live out your most Hallmark moment.

Holiday cheer is in the air as you walk around downtown, with shops and restaurants run by friendly locals making you feel welcome.

Walking down Main Street, colonial- and industrial-era buildings house little shops and restaurants beckon guests to come in and explore. Decorative garland is wrapped around streetlamps; store windows are decorated with Christmas trees and tinsel; Christmas music wafts into the street; and at night, the street is all aglow.

Begin your visit at the historic Central Moravian Church, where the Christmas Huts on Main, holiday-themed pop-ups, offer unique holiday gifts, The local vendors are open until Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

After strolling through the huts, wander over to the Hotel Bethlehem, which is beautifully decorated for the holidays. Unfortunately, the hotel is now closed for dining and tours due to new COVID-19 restrictions. But you can still see the historic building all dressed up in its Christmas finest as you wander by.
