Explore the rich history, fascinating stories, and dynamic exhibitions inside Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts and the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem on the first Sunday of every month from June through November.

Admission is free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., thanks to the generous support of the Jones Children Fund. All are welcome!

Design a Silk Fan

Where: Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts (427 N. New St., Bethlehem)

Did you know fans can speak? They have a little-known language, and for 3,000 years, they were used in dances, wars, and secret communications. This month, decorate your own handheld silk fan. While you’re here, learn about the little-known language of fans.

Make Embroidered Hoops

Try your hand at cross-stitch. Work freehand or follow a simple pattern. While you’re here, explore our collection of historical Moravian needlework!


Decorate a Halloween Treat Bag

Trick or treat! Halloween is right around the corner, and you know what that means – it’s time to figure out how you’re going to carry all your candy! At the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts, get in the Halloween spirit by decorating your very own canvas trick-or-treat bag!

 Make Fall Scented Candles

Where: Moravian Museum (66 W Church St, Bethlehem)

The tradition of candle-making goes back thousands of years, but it wasn’t until recently that we began to add scents. At the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem, fall into Fall and make your very own fall scented candles! Candles will be made with beeswax sheets and fragrance oils.


Design a Sari Paper Doll

Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, is celebrated on November 12th.  In honor of Diwali, design your very own paper doll sari and learn more about the fascinating history of this iconic garment. Need inspiration? Be sure to visit the sari on display in the Silk in Spirit & Ceremony Gallery as part of our current exhibition: Unspun: Stories of Silk!

Make a Putz Display

Putz is a traditional Moravian Christmas decoration featuring miniature hand-crafted figurines, including animals, buildings, and people. This holiday season, learn more about this incredible Moravian tradition, and try your hand at making your very own Putz display!
