Event overview

Explore the age-old craftsmanship of blacksmithing with your family when you stop by the 1750 Smithy (at 1 Ohio Rd, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) Fridays through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit this special historic attraction and learn about the impressive skills used by the Moravian blacksmiths, who created useful tools, weapons, and household items.

See the forges, locksmiths, and gunstocks made right in front of your eyes and take home a unique piece of history!

PLEASE NOTE: Our museums will be closed the weekend of Sept. 16-17 due to Apple Days Festival. Join us for this special event at Burnside for farm tours, Colonial demonstrations, and family activities.

Blacksmithing 101

Get into the soot with the Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites Blacksmithing 101 course. Staged in our historical 1750 Smithy in the Colonial Industrial Quarter, watch, learn, and hone your skills with one of our professional blacksmiths using the same tools of the trade that were available in the Colonial days. This course is designed to grow with the learner, building on skills learned from class to class. Book your beginner’s course today and spark a new passion.

The Smithy is funded in part by the Northampton County Hotel Tax grant.

Know someone who would enjoy the class? Buy Blacksmithing 101 gift certificates as a birthday present or holiday gift for students (who can schedule their classes at a later date).

The Smithy is open from April through December.

The fun doesn’t have to stop after your beginner class. Contact Keith Sten for more information regarding our advanced classes: 610-691-6055 or email at ksten@historicbethlehem.org.

The Smithy is funded in part by the Northampton County Hotel Tax grant.
