Lehigh Valley Live: Bethlehem serves up summertime blues – blueberries, that is

July 23rd, 2018 |

Written by Kurt Bresswein for Lehigh Valley Live

The two-day Blueberry Festival got underway for 2018 on Saturday at Burnside Plantation in Bethlehem.

In its 31st year, the festival serves up all things blueberry — from desserts to booze — and benefits Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites.

It goes until 7 p.m. Saturday and continues 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burnside, 1499 Schoenersville Road. Festival parking is available at nearby Martin Tower, 1170 Eighth Ave.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to 17. Brewery tent tasting passes cost an additional $10 for visitors ages 21 and older to try locally made beer, wine, mead and vodka; drinks are also sold by the glass in the festival’s upper and lower brewery tents.

Activities include a kids culinary contest (ages 15 and younger) at noon Sunday, the third annual pet parade at 3 p.m. Sunday and pie-eating contests at 2:15 p.m. both days of the festival.

There are also demonstrations, from Colonial cooking to chainsaw carving and pottery throwing; vendors in the Crafters Village; families activities including pony rides; and an array of musical performances. New this year is a Blueberry Jam Open Mic at 6 p.m. Saturday.
