Here’s your chance to meet a beer historian, learn about the history of brewing beer in Colonial America and taste homemade colonial brews.
Chris Bowen, Bethlehem beer historian, craft beer expert and documentary filmmaker, will host “Meet the Brewer” at 4 and 5:30 p.m. today at the 1810 Goundie House, 501 Main St.
It’s the debut of what’s expected to be a monthly program and helps kick off the opening of Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites’ new semi-permanent exhibit “Bethlehem Brewed and Distilled.”
Each month at “Meet the Brewer,” visitors can meet Bowen, who is the Bethlehem Brewed and Distilled guest curator, for an in-depth look at the history and techniques of brewing in Colonial America. Along with a tour of the new Bethlehem Brewed and Distilled exhibit, you can take part in a complimentary tasting of homemade Colonial brews.
“Bethlehem Brewed and Distilled” looks at the history of Bethlehem’s many breweries, spanning both sides of the Lehigh River. Bowen illustrates the life of John Sebastian Goundie, a prominent man in early 19th-century Bethlehem and the community’s first brewer.
Tickets: $20 and include complimentary tasting and access to the exhibit. Space is limited to 20 guests, who must be at least 21.
